JOIN US AND LEARN TO DESIGN AND BUILD A MICRO-HOUSE IN FIVE DAYS!

WE ARE GETTING TOGETHER AGAIN! A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU WHEN YOU JOIN US FOR THIS YEAR’S SUMMER IN THE WOODS - WHETHER YOU ARE JOINING US FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR RETURNING FROM LAST YEAR. SET IN STUNNING SCENERY AND AMONGST LIKE-MINDED FRIENDS, YOU WILL BE TAUGHT AND MENTORED BY YOUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED AND SYMPATHETIC TUTORS - ARCHITECT PETE MANNING OF ECOARC. LAUNCHED IN 2018, THIS YEAR YOU WILL BE TAUGHT THE SKILLS TO BUILD A SPECIALLY SMALL MICRO-HOUSE USING THE THREE KEY ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN, CARPENTRY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY.

For girls and guys at all skill levels, here you will find a couple of practical hands- on Courses where you will learn to build with timber and work with architectural design with your Course Director Pete Manning.

No previous skills are needed, and you really don’t need to be physically strong. The main thing you will need is interest, enthusiasm and an eagerness for acquiring the skills on offer.

For those under 18 years, special arrangements need to be made for each student.

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING YOU ON THIS FIVE-DAY COURSE...

In this third year of our Course, we will be building two projects one complicated building, which will be started earlier in the summer so the skeleton of the building is in place before the course starts. This building is a tree-house / microhome and will give you an inside of how a more complicated building is constructed. The second project is a very small building which will be used as a sauna, where we will instruct you in building techniques which are needed in any timber framed building.

These projects will cover all basic elements required for sleeping, eating and washing. It will be built in several sections, with each section small enough to be positioned into place by hand, also splitting up the tasks ensuring an even flow of jobs for all.

The building techniques you’ll learn here will give you great flexibility, and enable you to build something as small as just 10m2, or a much larger building of 70m2 or more.

The main architectural design is complete (both exterior and interior) our main plan is to concentrate on the details and functionality of the kitchen and washing areas. However, if any of you wish to use your time on another design angle, we’ll be very happy to help you.

The theoretical part of the Course is carefully woven into the practical activities of the day, with a welcome breather in the middle of the day, which will also serve as a time for covering the theoretical elements.

Packed with valuable hints and tips, as well as wonderful talks, you will leave the Course feeling inspired and ready to exert your own artistic flair on a Micro-house of your own - whether that’s a little off-grid home, a workspace in the garden, or a glamping pod for summer getaways.

We have five days to do this, and we aim to get the main structure completed on the sauna project and start working on the walls and roof of the Treehouse on Course 1, and start the cladding and sealing the sauna and continue with the walls and roof of the Treehouse on Course 2. Our main goal is to give you the skills needed to get started with your own build. The building will not be completed in the scope of the two courses

You might also like to extend your stay after the Course so you can explore Å- Camp, the location of the Course, and maybe take a trip to the other end of the farm, where there is a lovely lake for fishing, and a cabin to stay in. Take a look here at Å-camp: www. aacamp.no
